Description
Gerald Slota
GERALD SLOTA is a fine artist and photographer who has been widely exhibited across the United States and abroad. He has had solo shows at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, and Langhans Galerie in Prague, Czech Republic, as well as been shown at Recontres D’ Arles in Arles, France.
Slota is represented by the Robert Berman Gallery in LA. His images have appeared in numerous publications including: The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Discover, and Scientific America, as well as in BOMB, Blindspot, ARTNEWS, Art in America, and Aperture. Currently, Slota teaches at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, and has lectured at many institutions such as the International Center for Photography (ICP). Gerald Slota has garnered many awards including a Polaroid 20” x 24” Grant, a MacDowell Artist Residency, and a Mid-Atlantic Fellowship Grant in 2001 and 2009. To create his compositions, Gerald Slota mutilates photographs, scrawling, piercing, tearing, cutting, burning, and collaging. His work spans the analog/digital divide—as in the artist’s photographs of the pages of his journal, with feature photographs, contact sheets, drawings, and masking tape. Slota has collaborated with writer Neil LaBute on a series of “strange greeting cards”, creating eerie images to go with a series of dark lines by the writer. In these, as in the artist’s other work, the viewer is presented with a bizarre world that offers imagined secret histories and subliminal narratives. This is a unique image which Slota has titled "Run" and open to your interpretation. The photograph has additional information as to the provenance on verso. We can furnish additional photos upon request. It has been recently evaluated and all documentation will be forwarded to the buyer.
