Painting - Oil On Canvas Under Glass
Description
This is a portrait of Madonna, (Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus) Our Lady of Sorrows
This is a 16th century oil on canvas painting which is framed but under glass for what we deem as preservation of the canvas. She is turned to the left with a sword entering from the right towards the left and her heart. The canvas in need of some restoration but the image is still bright in color.
Research put this portrait as being painted in the mid to late 16th century and according to information gathered was at one point the property of the Catholic Church in Turkey.
The painting was professionally painted but the artist is unknown. After extensive research the value was determined by comparing it to other paintings of the same style and from the same period. Our primary source of research show that paintings of Our Lady of Sorrow whether they be with one, three or seven swords are extremely rare and there are no auction result of one being sold. Our research also shows that all the paintings of this type are primarily the property of churches or religious foundations. This is a great opportunity to add an extremely rare painting to ones collection. It should be mention that the painting is framed and measures 18.5" x 20.75".
