Description
Biography Johannes Bertholomaus Duntze
The landscape painter John Bartholomew Duntze studied from 1838 at the Munich Academy; then in Berlin and Antwerp from 1851 to 1855; and in Geneva at Alexandre Calame.
In 1856 he settled in Dusseldorf and from there participated in numerous German and foreign exhibitions. By preference he painted motifs from Holland and Norway, from the Tyrol and Switzerland, but also from the Rhine and Mosel. Duntze specialized in mountain subjects from Norway, Switzerland and Tyrolia on the one hand, on winter landscapes with frozen lakes and rivers in the manner of the Dutch contemporary painters on the other hand. This is a fabulous oil on canvas by Johannes Bertholomaus Duntze with the exception of a small hole in the lower right corner. I should tell you first of that this artist has sold paintings at auction for as much as 70K. This canvas is strong, well varnish and otherwise in beautiful condition. Here a chance to spend a little to make a great profit or just to own a really great painting. This painting depicts the rocky shoreline of a mountain lake in summer with a tree and green grass on the left. A canoe with two figures can be seen on the lower right. In the distance are snow covered mountains. It is nicely framed measuring 26" x 21.25" in height. It has been recently appraised and all documentation will be forwarded to the buyer.
